2024 MDUSD Choir Festival

This VIDEO (YouTube) is from the MDUSD Choir Festival of 2024. The 2024 Mt. Diablo Unified School District high school choir festival was an inspiring day of singing that brought together students from College Park High School, Concord High School, and Northgate High School. Students met at the Concord HS gymnasium for an itinerary of singing, listening, camaraderie, and pizza! Students met to rehearse their repertoire under the direction of guest conductor Dr. Bret Peppo, and ate a pizza dinner together while enjoying a special concert by the local a cappella choir “pH Scale.”

The festival culminated in a concert that evening, and their first song “In Meeting We Are Blessed” appropriately set the tone to demonstrate the importance of group singing and community. Other songs highlighted different aspects of our choir programs – the combined bass clef singers, highlighted treble choirs from each high school, and an intimate performance by the MDUSD district honor choir. Capping off the evening was a stirring rendition of the ancient Korean song “Arirang,” which showcased the ability of choral music to reach across world cultures.

The district high school choir festival is sponsored annually by the Mount Diablo Music
Education Foundation, which made every aspect of the experience possible – from purchasing the sheet music, to funding the guest conductor, to paying for the buses, to buying the pizza for all of our hungry students. In a challenging year of transition for two of our high school choir programs, the festival was particularly important this year to highlight the importance of choral education, and to provide our students with an experience of community and music-making outside of the boundaries of their campuses. The choir directors and choir students extend their heartfelt gratitude to MDMEF for their continued sponsorship of this important annual event.
